Other Breeds I may consider


Kiko – female*

female Kiko goats (does) may weigh 100-150 lbs., while a Kiko buck may weigh 250-350 lbs

Boer – female*

Boer goats are the largest of the goat breeds. Mature does can weigh between 190-230 pounds, and mature Boer bucks can weigh between 200–340 pounds.

Spanish – female*

male: 200 to 250 lbs. females: 110 to 150 lbs.

Nubian – female*

Mature Nubians weigh between 100 and 250 pounds and stand a minimum of 30 inches high at the withers (shoulders).

Nubian does weigh at least 135 pounds (61 kilograms) and 175 pounds (79 kilograms) for bucks. The minimum height of the breed, measured at the withers, is 30 inches (76 centimeters) for does and 35 inches (88 centimeters) for bucks. Unlike other dairy breeds, Nubians have been used by some producers in the goat meat production sector. The breed is large, which brings associated rapid growth rates. Their large pendulous ears often suggest they make a good foundation for upgrading to the Boer.

Angora – female*

Angora goats are small in relation to dairy goats or sheep. Adult females stand 36 inches tall and weigh between 70–110 pounds; males stand 48 inches tall and weigh 180–225 pounds

Pigmy – Male*

Male goats on average can weigh between 60 to 90 lbs and females can weigh around 50 to 75 lbs.

Saanen – female*

The Saanen is the largest breed of Swiss goat: billies stand about 90 cm (35 in) at the withers and weigh a minimum of 85 kg (190 lb).

mature female stands at least 30 inches at the withers (top of the shoulder blades) and weighs 135 pounds or more.

Alpine – female*

Mature females should stand not less than 30 inches at the withers and should weigh not less than 135 pounds. Males should stand from 34 to 40 inches at the withers and should weigh not less than 170 pounds.

LaMancha – female*

The LaMancha is a large goat that stands about 3 feet tall. Males have an average weight of 165 pounds, and females have an average weight of 130 pounds.

Nigerian – male*

Body length is roughly two feet at the shoulder. Weight can be up to 75 pounds. Males are larger. Lifespan averages 15 years.

Oberhasli – female*

The Oberhasli goat is a medium sized goat and they can weigh up to 150 pounds. Their tan, brown and black color pattern is called “chamoisee”.

Oberhasli goats can also be black in color as a result of recessive genes. These goats have erect ears and straight faces. A mature female stands at least 28 inches at the withers (top of the shoulder blades) and weighs 120 pounds or more. Males stand approximately 30 inches tall and weigh 150 pounds or more.

Toggenburg – female*

Toggenburgs are a compact, robust, dairy-type animal (that is, with a dished or straight facial line and wedge-shaped body). They are usually slightly smaller than the other Alpine breeds. The does weigh at least 55 kg. The average height, measured at the withers, is about 79 cm for does and 90 cm for bucks.

They are a sturdily built goat with strong legs and an elongated body. Their fawn, gray, or brown coat is short to medium in length with white markings. They average 26-33 inches tall and weigh 120-150 lbs.

Body weight for males is 154 lbs and females is 121 lbs, and height is 75 cm for males and 70 cm for females. Because of their high milk yield, Toggenburgs have also been exported next to Saanen and Alpines. Milk production of recorded goats was 650 kg in 270 days.
